[ Sister2sister News ]

Our recent SISTER2sister outings have provided the girls with a diverse range of experiences and many wonderful opportunities for fun and learning. Trying their hand at art and sport, enjoying Christmas in July…a great time was had by all!

Our creative girls were keen to let their paint brushes run wild while they worked together as a team to create the picture of a new community with Suzanne at our Art Escape day.  As well as getting down and dirty with the paint, they also had two workshops with Michael on Breathing for Life and Laughter. The sensational curry for lunch from Kim was a big hit. It was a fantastic creative day all about getting back to nature and using simple things like art, breathing and laughter to bring relaxation and calm to our lives.

Hearing from successful sports people is a great way to learn about setting goals, overcoming obstacles and achieving success. Our Little Sisters were very lucky to have some rugby league players from the Roosters and the Dragons come and hang out with them at our sports outing.  The boys spoke to the girls about how they have achieved their goals, as well as having an exciting game of touch footy.  We had a couple of girls who starred on the field, scoring tries and showing their sporting spirit.  This day also encompassed a fabulous workshop conducted by the girls from Entente about building trust, which was invaluable.  Greg Smith came to talk to the girls about money management, and Constable Julie Jones gave up her time to come and speak to the girls about being street safe and answer questions of a police nature.

It’s always fun to go on a bus trip, and heading off to the Blue Mountains with all the Little and Big Sisters was a special treat.  Everyone had a hair raising ride on the Scenic Railway, which plunged deep down into the beautiful valley.  After a relaxing bush walk, the girls jumped back on the bus and headed for a special "Christmas in July" lunch at the beautiful Carrington Hotel.  It was a sit down, 2 course lunch, where we celebrated Christmas with Santa and a Christmas Carol singalong with the piano man.  Roast turkey and Christmas pudding filled the spot before the SISTER2sisters headed off to visit the Three Sisters on their way home after a great day of fresh air and Christmas spirit.

For making our recent outings and workshops such a fabulous success, our sincere thanks go to Katie O’Farrell, Michael Hollack, Suzanne Nehme, Adrienne Margarian, Kim D’Silva, Lyndal Blom, the team at Entente, Braith Anasta, Craig Stevens, Greg Smith, Denise Pope, The Carrington Hotel, Vicki Condon, and our wonderful photographer, Michelle Francis.
