In this issue we meet Big Sister, Cathy Love and Little Sister, Brooke Tucker. They tell us about their amazing journey together so far.
Big Sister, Cathy LoveI have a background in Human Resources as well as Learning and Organisational Development. My current role sees me working with our diverse sales force and developing their potential for Kimberly-Clark Australia.
I first heard about the foundation when I saw an ad about 2 years ago seeking volunteer recruiters to help screen applicants for the foundation but at the time I wasn’t able to commit the time required to the program. With a change of job roles last year I contacted LCEF and became a Big Sister for the 2007 program.
All the training leading up to Bootcamp helps prepare you to meet and work with your Little Sister but it doesn’t prepare you for the ‘butterflies’ in your stomach on that first day hoping she will like you and that you both will get along. Thankfully Brooke and I clicked straight away and she felt she could open up to me and share her story and her aspirations for the future. Bootcamp was a bit of a rocky experience for Brooke as it was her first time away from home but she stayed and came to make the most of the experience culminating in her speech at the end of Bootcamp.
Over the past 6 months we’ve worked together on setting goals and use our weekly calls as a way to keep the focus on those goals by supporting and encouraging Brooke to stretch herself. Our weekly chats range from relationship issues, establishing good study habits through to our latest on Office Etiquette. It’s really whatever she wants to talk about at the time. Next week Brooke will be doing work experience in a prominent Sydney Law firm, another step closer to her career goal of becoming a lawyer.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being a Big Sister and get a real kick out of seeing Brooke achieve something she didn’t think she could do or wouldn’t have even considered doing at the start of the year. She is really beginning to blossom.
Jessica has named the foundation Life Changing Experiences I’m sure with the express focus of what it can do for the Little Sisters but I think the name equally applies to the Big Sisters. I feel I have learnt things about myself and grown this year as well. I would thoroughly recommend the program to other women wanting to make a difference. Jessica and the team are truly inspirational.
Hello Girls, I’m Brooke Tucker, a Little Sister in the program. From this experience I have learnt to be myself, be more confident, and believe in myself. I have met so many great people that have guided me through rough times. Thank you to Cathy, my Big Sister, for supporting me through this year and I really appreciate the outings we go to each month & the time Jess and the girls spend with us.
