The project started 10 years ago on a beautiful property in Rothbury in Australia’s Hunter Valley, where the Family hand planted 25 acres of premium vines with the top quality goal firmly in mind. The varietals we planted included Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon Verdelho, Chardonnay and Sangiovese.

The first few years were tough going. Each year the grapes were hand-picked and at first the best ones were used in making Mother’s special and acclaimed favourite grape jelly. But after four years it was finally agreed that the fruit was of high enough quality to produce our very first wine, our 2003 vintage "Little Red". So the dream began…

The "Little Red" was a brilliant Shiraz, smooth and velvety with hints of cinnamon and black peppers. It was such a success that the wine was entirely sold out before the 2004 vintage was ready for sale!

The following harvest set a bench mark for the vineyard with the launch of the (now famous) "Blushing Duck" Rosé series" from the 2004 vintage. Our Rose is exceptional in that it is crafted from our Sangiovese grapes exclusively, just as in the traditional European wine grape areas. Subsequent vintages thrived and the name "Littledale" has become somewhat of an icon, with Club members and restaurants alike anticipating each harvest.

Today Littledale Estates’ portfolio includes four wine individual styles, Verdelho (Prelude), Cabernet Sauvignon (Three Dog Night), Shiraz (The Little Red) and of course the Rosé (The Blushing Duck). The wines are available direct from our Sydney office; visit us www.littledale.com.au
