Morag Malloy- Team Leader Victoria
Melbourne is up and running!!
After much dreaming and planning, we have now had two fabulous outings in Melbourne with our "small in numbers but mighty in character" team.
On the 21st of Feb we had a beautiful day for Surfing on the Bellarine Peninsular at Ocean Grove. We started the day getting to know each other again after Bootcamp and had a very inspiring workshop on body image given by Naomi Crafti. Then all the Little Sisters piled in the community bus, which is definitely not of the luxury variety and a bit bone rattling. With Deb at the helm and Fay leading the convoy, we all
eventually found Nathan and the boys from the Ride-A-Wave Surf School. With much fun getting everyone into their wetsuits, we were all just thrown in at the deep end and got in the water, it was a blast! Between mouthfuls of salt water, we quickly had a number of us riding the waves like pros. Sadly it had to end; Big Sisters said goodbye and all the Little Sisters got back in the bus for a loud trip back home with lots of high spirits and excitement after a great day.
Exactly one month later, I was back on the plane and heading to Melbourne to the fire station, this time to catch up with the team again to go rollerblading.
Before we could all get our skates on, we had a fun morning drawing giant people and finding out what effects alcohol and drugs have on people. Thanks to Fireman Mitchell, we had a great sausage sizzle lunch and had the now famous Sister2sister convoy happening on our way to rollerblading. It was not as I remembered rollerblading to be, but a disco rink with DJ and games. Much to everyone’s amusement I have never been rollerblading/skating before but I tentatively got the groovy boots on and crawled my way around the rink with the other beginners (average age 5yrs). Before long we were all getting into it and with the support of each other; congas were forming, Big and Little Sisters and I were falling on our posterius but getting back up, laughing and having another go.
Another great day was had by all, helped by lots of love and support and great cup cakes by Chelsea.
