The 2009 Butterfly Boot Camp - Narrabeen Sport and Recreation Centre, 17– 20 January.
This year’s Boot Camp proved to be another winner! It was once again, the essential first step of the SISTER2sister Program to initiate the bonding and learning process between Big Sister mentors and their respective Little Sisters. What an amazing life changing experience for all involved.
A structured learning program including both educational and fun activities provided a balanced platform over the four-day camp for the Little Sisters to commence their growth. Experiencing these activities, some for the first time in their life, may seem like fun but the learning outcomes were many and varied including learning how to set goals, overcome obstacles, maintain resilience, the power of choice, communication skills and confidence building.
A huge thank you to this year’s presenters, all of whom donated their time and energy: Blake Beattie, Linda Chamberlain, Narelle Henderson, Andrew Mackell-Wong, Louise Majkut, Renee Offner, Deb Pamula, Annaleise Pippin and Shelley Taylor-Smith.
On the evening of the final day of Butterfly Boot Camp our Little Sisters’ family and friends were invited to attend a presentation night where all Little Sisters showed amazing courage to stand in front of an audience of nearly 200 to demonstrate their deportment routines and then to individually deliver a speech about their journey so far with the SISTER2sister Program.
Our Big and Little Sisters have demonstrated strength of character and perseverance and, now that the journey has commenced, we look forward to reporting many wonderful successes in the coming months.
