Big Sister, Ellen
I was so excited about meeting Bridget on the first day of Bootcamp! I'd seen a picture of her so I had a fair idea of what she looked like. She was one of the first girls to walk in the room, looking rather daunted at the room full of Big Sisters! When she grabbed my teenage photo off the wall, then turned around to find me, I was looking directly at her with a huge grin on my face...so it didn’t' take her too long to work out I was her Big Sister!!
The Bootcamp was such an amazing experience. Bridget and I seemed to connect straight away. Conversations flowed easily and we felt very comfortable in each other’s company. She's very easy to communicate with and that trust between us seems already established. The 4 days of Bootcamp certainly helped develop that bond. Bridget's such a bright young girl and she gave 110% in every activity she participated in, from the wood chopping to the canoeing...it was great to see her embrace all the challenges with such enthusiasm, even when I knew she was as nervous as hell at times!
I feel very honoured to be Bridget's Big Sister. I'm so pleased to see that she has her family and school supporting her throughout this program and that she has a genuine desire to build more self-confidence and stretch herself outside her comfort zone. I'm looking forward to continuing to get to know Bridget over the next 12 months and to play a role in helping her achieve her goals for 2008. I feel so lucky to have her in my life!!
Little Sister, Bridget
When I came to Bootcamp I was nervous and every person I talked to had to look down to see me. When it was time to meet my Big Sister Ellen, I was panicking, but Ellen was laughing and looking at me, so it was really easy to spot her. Then we had activities that needed speed, brains and balance. I came in handy when we had to get through small but high holes! Throughout the days of activities, we had many pep talks that touched all of us. Before this camp I couldn't dance, but now I want to take up dancing.
I have 3 goals for this year, these are…
1) to build self-confidence
2) to pass all subjects well
3) to study harder
