STOP PRESS!! Newsflash! STOP PRESS!! Newsflash! STOP PRESS!! The 2009 Big Sister Information Evening in Sydney will be held on |

Dear Supporter
We are already half way through the year and the activity at the foundation is non-stop!
The Life Changing Ball was a magical evening. Julia Morris had us in stitches, while Amy Pearson, Aerialise and Casanova’s Kiss kept us entertained. The generosity of the people who attend and the volunteers who give so much time and help to make the evening a unique experience never ceases to amaze me. There were many winners during the evening and the auctions, pledges and raffles brought in over $109,000. Thank you to all of our sponsors, supporters, guests and volunteers for their generous contribution.
Congratulations to Sara Lewis of ASX who has worked hard to put together the first corporate SASSI team at the ASX. It was exciting to see how well the team is going and how motivated they are to fundraise for the SISTER2sister Program.
In June, I had the opportunity to visit Melbourne to consider locations and options for the national expansion of the SISTER2sister Program. It was very encouraging and exciting to see that Wyndham City Council in particular, is a growing region with an active interest in youth supporting programs like ours. There is a thriving professional community which will make it ideal for finding big sister mentors. We are now developing a pilot program which we hope to launch there in 2009. This is it everyone…..we are taking our amazing SISTER2sister Program national!
It will soon be time for the big sister recruitment for 2009. Please check our website for updates on the information day, interview schedule and training dates if you would like to be a big sister mentor in 2009.
As always, it is a proud moment to discuss the achievements of our little sisters in the 2008 program. Read about these “Butterfly Wins” in SISTER2sister news.
Truly I am grateful for the incredible energy and support of our volunteers. A huge thank you goes to our big sisters, team leaders, and in particular, Lou Storie and Vanessa Sales. Along with all the family and friends, they really made the ball an amazing evening.
We look forward to starting the program in Victoria and to the many new volunteers who sign up to make a difference. The impact you can have is phenomenal and on behalf of all the little sisters who are and have been in the program, I thank you!
Kind Regards,

Jessica Brown

You can also participate in activities or challenges like the City2surf Run and select Life Changing Experiences as your chosen charity.
Our recent SISTER2sister outings had it all - high-energy activities, relaxation sessions, team building exercises and learning to give to others. Team Leader, Lyndal Blom recounts the outings.
Trapeze at Olympic Park
The morning started with a session aimed at teaching the Little Sisters some relaxation techniques based around hypnosis. Many of the Big Sisters also found this session extremely beneficial.
Bikes for Tykes
At our next outing, Corporate Challenge spent the morning with us taking us through four ‘team building’ activities.
Butterfly Wins
Recent achievements include the “Bikes for Tykes” day where the girls built children’s bicycles that were presented to several children from Camp Quality. They got to see which child selected the bike they had made and watched as the children gave their new bikes a trial run.
We also had a special visitor brought in by one of our Big Sisters. Jake, a black Labrador is the proud survivor of cancer and a volunteer with Delta visiting old age homes. He stole the hearts of the Little Sisters.
Other “wins” included:
Being nominated as a captain
Overcoming a phobia of water and learning to dive
Coming in 7th in a 5km run
Getting a job doing makeup for the morning show on Channel 7
Passing Maths for the first time in 5 years.
In this issue, we meet Jane Poole and Zarah Bowden. Jane shares with us her journey with her Little Sister so far this year.
Get SASSI and join a phenomenal network of women making a difference. |
