Newsflash!!! Little Sister Graduate and Butterfly Ambassador, Kaytlin Taylor achieves a lifetime dream. Congratulations Kaytlin!! - Read more >> |
Dear Supporter,
The past two months has been an extremely exciting time for the Life Changing team. We held our very first joint event with NIVEA, a very glamourous "Body: Beauty" art exhibition, held at the Charles Hewitt Gallery in Darlinghurst on the 26th and 27th May. The exhibition featured over 20 stunning artworks, each celebrating the beauty of women. Both evenings saw over 200 people in attendance, including VIPs, media representatives and of course, our Big Sisters. The total raised on the night from the exhibition was just over $11,000 - a fantastic result. I’m continually inspired by the enthusiasm of the NIVEA team and staff, who have worked tirelessly to raise much needed funds for the SISTER2sister Program through their staff fundraising efforts.
This month, it was an honour to be one of the major charities chosen for the Federal Parliament Press Gallery Midwinter Ball in Canberra, held on the 17th of June. Funds raised on the night will go towards the SISTER2sister Program. We were also successful in being chosen for the ASX Reuters charity list for the second year in a row, which is brilliant!
A little overwhelmed as I write, I could not miss sharing an extraordinary accomplishment of Little Sister graduate, Kaytlin Taylor. Her unbelievable strength, resilience and determination enabled her to complete her HSC, with an equivalent UAI of 99, despite facing complex and enormous obstacles in her life. She has proven that it is possible to achieve your dreams despite your setbacks. I was honoured to be Kaytlin’s guest for the 2009 Student Excellence Awards at Sydney Institute where she won the Equity Special Achievement Award for this amazing result.
If you felt a positive ripple effect in NSW and Victoria, it may have been started by our Little Sisters! In Sydney, the girls had their chance to "Pay it Forward" as they eagerly made bicycles from scratch and then gave them away to extremely sick children from Camp Quality, who accepted the bikes on the day. Our Melbourne Little Sisters came up with an equally wonderful concept and showered roses in abundance to a group of very thrilled elderly people at a local nursing home.
On the subject of money, we eagerly await with our fingers and toes crossed for the announcement of successful funding from the Federal Government, after many months of grant writing and submissions. For one of these grants, we are up against 3000 other charities, so the competition is huge. We hope to have some good news to share with you very soon.
Thanks to you, our wonderful volunteers and staff. Without you, this Foundation would not be what it is today. I look forward to kicking goals with you in 2009 and witnessing our Little Sisters continue to grow and blossom.
To our supporters, thank you and I look forward to updating you with some more exciting news next time.
Kind regards,

Jessica Brown
