Meet some of AMP’s ‘Unsung Heroes’ – Mal Draper, Diala Barsoum and Merrilyn Kinder.
Every year, hundreds of AMP employees volunteer their time to support the work of Australian charities. Among them are those extra special volunteers who volunteer with such generosity and selflessness that they manage to rack up more than 80 hours a year. Mal Draper, Merrilyn Kinder and Diala Barsoum are just three of those ‘Unsung Heroes’.
Diala Barsoum, Marketing & Communications Manager, FPAS - Volunteers with the Life Changing Experiences Foundation.
Diala has been volunteering with the Life Changing Experiences Foundation for the past year. This charity works to assist Australian youth, by providing support, inspiration and opportunities to allow them to realise their full potential. Diala has been involved specifically with the SISTER2Sister program.
The SISTER2sister program takes in up to 50 at risk teenage girls per year from the Sydney metropolitan area. Each of the girls in the program is assigned a Big Sister mentor as a positive female role model to provide support, guidance and advice, where needed, throughout the 12 month program.
"I volunteered for the program because I felt I could make a real difference to the life of a disadvantaged teenager and make a real impact over the twelve months of the program. I also felt it would be good for me to help others and put what happens to me on a day to day basis into perspective ".
Diala says that without donations, the SISTER2sister program wouldn’t be able to continue running "It is very important that AMP provides a donation to the charity. It relies heavily on donations to ensure the program happens every year."
