Meet Our Sisters
Big Sister, Vanessa Hillier shares her thoughts on the journey with Little Sister, Vanissa so far.
I joined the SISTER2sister Program to give back but what I didn’t expect was to get so much out of the program. My Little Sister is an absolute inspiration and I have formed so many new friendships with other Big Sisters.
When I first met Vanissa, I was astounded by her maturity and positive attitude, despite her challenging past.
What Vanissa wanted get out of the program was "to have fun and get to know herself better".
Our first outing certainly delivered on the fun factor and we enjoyed a day of rides and laughs at Luna Park.
Vanissa then joined my family for Easter lunch and we enjoyed a day of seafood and way too much chocolate. In the car on the way home, Vanissa got to experience my terrible singing voice as we sung along to the radio but her voice was absolutely amazing. So good in fact that she is going to sing at our wedding in January.
Our other outings were also loads of fun and included stuffing ourselves silly at the Cooking outing, building Bikes for Tykes and getting creative at the Art Express session.
During the time Vanissa and I have spent together, we have formed and special bond and it has been an amazing experience to share both the highs and the lows with her. Vanissa has overcome some pretty tough experiences and it has been very rewarding supporting her through those times.
Vanissa was inspired by the TV show Bones to become a Forensic Anthropologist and is currently focusing on her year 8 studies as a stepping stone to university and achieving her career goals.
What I love most about the SISTER2sister Program is the opportunity to support my Little Sister and have a lot of fun in the process.
I am really looking forward to spending the rest of the year with Vanissa and seeing her achieve her academic and personal goals. |
