Meet Our Sisters
Big Sister, Jodie and Little Sister, Amelia share with us their journey together so far…
My journey with Amelia has only just begun and already we have both learnt so much and achieved so much together. On our first day at Bootcamp, I don't think you could see who was more nervous, her or me! We were both nervous and had the same thoughts running through our heads, "I hope she likes me!"
As soon as I met Amelia, she gave me her whopping great big smile along with a little clap and jump, I knew we were both ready to have a great time.
We had 4 amazing days together and I got to see this young, intelligent, beautiful girl slowly start to come out of her shell and grow in confidence day by day. By the end of the Bootcamp she was beaming and so was I, both of us delighted about what we had achieved… and it was only the first 4 days of our journey!
At the end of the Bootcamp, all the girls delivered a small speech about how they have found the experience so far. Here is a little of what Amelia had to say….
"When I first arrived at Butterfly Bootcamp I was nervous and excited as I didn't know who my Big Sister was going to be and if she would like me. In this Bootcamp I have learnt to step outside of my comfort zone, try new things, and make new friends. These are all the reasons that I wanted to be part of this Bootcamp. My favourite moment of this camp was when I walked across broken glass, I broke a bit of wood in half, I walked across the front of canoes and I performed a skit with my team. I think this year will be different because I will have learnt new things I would never have the chance to do, and I am making new friends. This Bootcamp has helped to let go of my fear of trying new things whether I like them or not."
The best part of the Bootcamp for me so far, is seeing that great big smile on Amelia's face when she does something that she never though she could.
I wanted to be part of the Sister2sister Program to give something back and hopefully be a positive influence in someone's life. You never really know the impact that you can have on these young girls' lives. You soon realise though, you may never know, just the fact that you're there is all that matters. |
