Mychelle Vanderburg is currently the Youth Publisher at Pacific Magazines. As Group Publisher, Mychelle has P&L responsibility for all projects as well as developing the market and business strategy for all her titles which include Girlfriend, Total Girl and K-zone magazines. She works directly with decision makers and manages a large team of editorial and marketing experts.
As leader across these youth categories, Mychelle has been directly exposed to the challenges young people have in their lives. She's proud of the fact that the brands have been able to make a difference, through the power of media, to be a positive influence in the lives of readers.
Since her appointment three years ago, many initiatives have been launched across the titles through campaigns to address the concerns of today's youth. The titles aim to educate and inspire readers in positive ways. Campaigns under her guidance have included Girlfriend magazine's Self Respect campaign, Positive Actionista, Total Girl's Make Your Dreams Come True issue and the Girlfriend of the Year Awards.
For all of these initiatives, Mychelle has gained experience with relevant experts, communities and organisations in the partnerships.
In the past 20 years, Mychelle has also held a series of senior marketing roles in companies such as The Freedom Group (Freedom, Captn' Snooze, Guests and BaySwiss), Strandbags Group (including eQUIP) Levi's and Bose.
Based on her experience at Levi's and Bose, where these organisations had a strong association with supporting causes and foundations, Mychelle was able to go on to introduce new partnerships with other organisations she worked at including Freedom, eQUIP and Strandbags. At these businesses, Mychelle led the development of relevant products into the retail stores, resulting in proceeds or profits being raised to support much needed funding for the relevant organisations. Her strong belief that everyone can make a difference, coupled with her ability to implement initiatives on a large scale across the retailers she worked for, has enabled her to gain a wide range of experience.
Mychelle loves working across the youth titles she manages and she has a natural affiliation with the youth of Australia. This is demonstrated in the work and partnerships she has implemented between retailers she's worked with and associations she built with the Children's Cancer Institute of Australia, CANTEEN, Inspire Foundation and the Butterfly Foundation. She recognises the importance of making a difference to the young people's lives and is extremely excited to join the board and continue her work on youth initiatives.
In 2005, Mychelle completed her Master's Degree in Business and has a total of 20 years experience in marketing roles at a senior level, across strong global retail brands.
