Celebrating our amazing people

The Group has proudly supported the Australian of the Year Awards for over 36 years, and our Australian of the Day program is a way of highlighting everyday people that inspire and make a positive difference to the lives of many within the Australian community.

In the spirit of our Australian of the Day program, we are extending this internally to recognise our own people. And we need your help.

Help us shine a light on your amazing colleagues who are extraordinary in their everyday lives, making a positive difference to the Australian community. We’re looking for employees who embody the spirit of CAN and live our values of integrity, accountability, collaboration, excellence and service.

Employees like Kate Webber from CommInsure, our CommBank Australian of the Day (CAOTD) for October.

Kate’s story began when she started her career in law as legal aid. She was in her early 20s and through her work with victims of domestic violence she came to realise the importance of early intervention to break the cycle.

Fast forward to years later where Kate has been working with Life Changing Experiences Foundation for nearly 10 years, and was awarded the NSW Corporate Volunteer of the Year in 2016.

The Life Changing Experiences Foundation offers youth support programs and it’s primary initiative is the SISTER2sister program. SISTER2sister provides support for marginalized teenage girls through mentoring and risk management programs. Kate is the Chair of the Board, has raised over one hundred thousand dollars for the Foundation and has been a Big Sister mentor herself.

Little Sister’s whom get mentoring, benefit in various ways which can include helping finish their education, finding work, leaving a difficult relationship and find safe accommodation.

Kate takes accountability for making the world we live in a better place, and the SISTER2sister program demonstrates the CBA values by putting together strong, independent women with vulnerable young girls, in an award-winning framework where they can collaborate to build a better future.

Kate has a long history of volunteering, including active roles as a Director of the Child Abuse Prevention Service, and a volunteer with Look Good… Feel Better, the Historic Houses Trust and the Red Cross. She exemplifies the value of Service.
